For too long, female athletes have had fewer resources and opportunities to optimize their performance in a way that supports their health - both while striving to up their game and keeping their future in mind. Most health information available to athletes is rooted in male-centric physiology or is based on social standards for the way females “should” look, feel and perform in their bodies. I call BS.

Many women struggle with poor energy, sleep, digestion, mental health, thyroid and reproductive health all for the sake of sport. In the moment, it feels absolutely worth it. And then so many women end up seeking health care to address these issues, either while pursuing their passion or a few years after because they can’t seem to get their metabolism on track, they suffer from abnormal periods and infertility, and their injuries don’t heal quickly or turn into chronic pain.

It’s about time that females are informed of their unique needs as athletes: how hormones affect your performance, strength, and musculoskeletal stability; that good nutrition is vital to take you to the next level, prevent or heal injuries, to keep you from developing chronic disease; and how current practices based on men’s physiology sets us up with an increased risk for nutrient deficiencies, chronic pain, osteoporosis, and infertility. This movement offers up a different way of doing things to support women and females to truly excel…

A LITTLE ABOUT ME.

My first true love was gymnastics. I LOVED defying gravity, doing things that scared me, being crazy strong, and pairing powerful performances with a bit of beauty. I was heartbroken to hang up my grips after a major injury, especially after my docs and physical therapists had no idea how to help me. But that certainly wasn’t going to be the end of my passion for movement. After months of various treatments, healing, and digging in and doing the work, I was able to pick myself back up and lead a totally fulfilling athletic life. I played soccer, ran and jumped for track and field, and found a new passion for dance, which stuck with me throughout college and into my adult life. After adventuring around the world for a while, the universe brought me back to the medical field…

While going through naturopathic medical school, I danced for 4 years in the NBA (#ripcity). Combining the two experiences at the same time gave me a unique upper hand to fine-tune my lifestyle to support improved energy, prevent injury and enhance recovery, balance hormones, and boost my performance. I got to be my own research project and I’ve learned so dang much along the way.
