Naturopathic Medical Training
I received my Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree and completed a primary care residency at National University of Natural Medicine. NUNM is the oldest naturopathic medical school in the USA, bearing deep roots in naturopathic philosophy and pushing the boundaries for innovative natural healthcare and science. With an additional masters degree in dispute resolution at Pepperdine University, I'm confident in helping people negotiate their mental, emotional and physical health priorities into their everyday lives. My goal is to teach my clients how to create a lifestyle that builds a foundation for long-term healthy living, so that they come back only when they really need to.

About Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are educated as primary care doctors in accredited four-year medical schools, completing education and clinical practicums comparable to that of a medical doctor. In addition to conventional topics such as pathophysiology, pharmacology and minor surgery, naturopathic doctors learn medical nutrition, botanical medicine, physical medicine and manipulation techniques, IV therapy, and hydrotherapy. NDs are trained to apply evidence-based medicine to affect an individual's allostasis, the ability to respond to stressors or illness and then return to normal, healthy function.
While licensing of naturopathic doctor's varies from state to state, naturopathic medical schools prepare doctors to the meet the fullest extent of possible licensure, including acting as primary care doctors with full prescriptive rights. Visit the Institute for Natural Medicine for frequently asked questions regarding naturopathic medicine.
Naturopathic Principles
6 naturopathic principles guide our profession:
1. The healing Power of Nature
Naturopathic physicians recognize a person’s innate ability to heal. NDs act to identify and remove obstacles to healing and recovery to facilitate this inherent self-healing process.
2. Identify and Treat the Cause
NDs seek to identify and remove the underlying causes of illness, rather than to merely eliminate or suppress symptoms.
3. Do No Harm
NDs follow 3 precepts to avoid harming the patient: (1) utilize methods and medical substances which minimize the risk of harmful side effects, using the least force necessary to diagnose and treat; (2) avoid when possible the harmful suppression of symptoms; (3) and acknowledge, respect and work with the individual’s self-healing process.
4. Doctor As Teacher
NDs educate their patients and encourage self-responsibility for health. They also recognize and employ the therapeutic potential of the doctor-patient relationship.
5. Treat the Whole Person
NDs treat each patient by taking into account many factors including physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social, and spiritual ones.
6. Practice Prevention
NDs emphasize the prevention of disease by assessing risk factors, heredity and susceptibility to disease, and making appropriate interventions in partnership with their patients to prevent illness.
